Academic Information

Rigorous academics and intensive clinical training will prepare you to make a difference in the field and the lives of your clients.

IPS is dedicated to forming the best mental health practitioners to respond to the critical needs of our time…And it’s paying off!  Our alumni are in demand, working in a variety of clinical settings, writing, teaching, and bringing hope to so many sufferings individuals, families and communities.

Whether you’re seeking licensure at the master’s or doctoral level, our Clinical Psychology programs will prepare you.*  We recognize that as Catholic (or Christian) clinicians, our students and graduates will be held to a high standard, so we’ve designed our curricula accordingly.

The IPS programs will challenge you both academically and in developing your clinical skills.  Our doctoral students are regularly placed in APA- and APPIC-accredited sites, and consistently receive the highest marks from their supervisors. We’ve even had site supervisors personally request more of our students!

Clinical classes include labs that incorporate role-play with your classmates, videotaped practice sessions with volunteers, and many opportunities for feedback and supervision.  You’ll also study evidence-based practice in psychology, reading outcome research, and composing integrative papers, as well as dive into theology and philosophy to learn about the nature of the human person and the application of the virtues.

As a testament to the quality of our programs, IPS was accredited at three levels shortly after our founding. We have received official accreditation on the state level by the State Council on Higher Education of Virginia (SCHEV) and the regional level by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).  Professionally we’re a designated program of the National Register/Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB).

*Note that licensure varies by state.
