Divine Mercy University’s Distinguished Alumni Award is presented on an annual basis to a graduate who has made significant contributions to society and whose accomplishments, affiliations, and career have honored the legacy of the excellence of the university.

This year, Dr. Andrew Sodergren will be the recipient of the 2016 Distinguished Alumni Award. Dr. Sodergren completed his doctoral degree from the Institute for the Psychological Sciences in 2009 with his dissertation entitled “Attachment and Morality: A Catholic Perspective.”

He will be recognized for his many professional achievements, service to the community and loyalty to the mission and vision of the Institute for the Psychological Sciences (IPS), which is now the School of Psychology within Divine Mercy University.

Currently, Dr. Sodergren is a licensed psychologist in Cincinnati, Ohio. He directs Ruah Woods Psychological Services, a practice dedicated to integrating the best in psychological science and the truths of the Catholic faith.  The practice is a part of Ruah Woods, a “first of its kind” Theology of the Body education center. In addition, to serving the Catholic community in the greater Cincinnati area, Dr. Sodergren supports the Archdiocese of Cincinnati in several capacities such as conducting vocational assessments for candidates to the priesthood or religious life. He is a sought-after public speaker for lay and clergy audiences and has also given numerous presentations at professional conferences on the integration of psychology and the Catholic faith. For example, Dr. Sodergren provided a continuing education workshop at IPS on the value of attachment research in psychotherapy.  Lastly, he teaches an annual course on psychology and neuroscience as an adjunct professor at the John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family in Washington, DC.

Dr. Andrew Sodergren is a true representative of a Distinguished Alumni, with significant contributions to the field of psychology and constant dedication to the mission and vision of Divine Mercy University. He will be presented with this award at the Institute for the Psychological Sciences’ 2016 Commencement exercises which will take place on May 20th. During the commencement, Dr. Sodergren will have the honor of addressing the graduating class of 2016 with words of inspiration.
