Campus Safety and Security

The Institute for the Psychological Sciences has a comprehensive Safety Plan for the purpose of taking reasonable efforts to provide a healthy, safe, and secure environment for all members of the campus community. This Safety Plan is in effect, evaluated regularly, and improved as needed. The effective implementation of the Institute’s environmental health and safety program requires a partnership between the Institute’s administration, entire campus community, and Vornado Property Management, the owner of the Institute’s facility.

If you are ever a victim of a crime on campus, please notify the Campus Safety and Security Official: Nancy Flynn, Director of Student Services, in order to ensure that the appropriate action is taken.  The building provides 24hr Security by Securitas. Should you ever need it, an officer is available to escort you to your car. You may contact them at any time by dialing 703-413-0150.

Campus Safety

In the event of an emergency, threat, or crime on campus, the Campus Security Officer will e-mail a timely warning to the campus community notifying them of the threat. The Institute encourages students and employees to be responsible for their own security and the security of others. Students and employees should also familiarize themselves with the Arlington Police Department (http://www.arlingtonva.us/Departments/Police/PoliceMain.aspx) and their services, as well as the National Crime Prevention Council (http://www.ncpc.org/)

Students and employees should report any suspicious and criminal activity on campus to the Campus Security Officer. However, if you encounter a situation that warrants immediate response from emergency personnel, call 911 first. The Institute’s Emergency Procedures for fire and evacuation may be found in the Student Handbook and Vornado supplies a Evacuation pamphlet that is distributed to students and can be found here (http://resources.vornadocharlesesmith.com/main/pdf/Emerg_Broch_1029_a.pdf?z=2012-09-25-1)  Please note that Institute does not monitor or offer security for off-campus events for students or student organizations.
