IPS partners with Persecuted Iraqi Catholics

Arlington, VA. (3/11/14) —The Institute for the Psychological Sciences (IPS), is pleased to announce the forging of a strategic partnership with St. Peter’s Seminary in Ainkawa Iraq, and with the SALT Foundation of Iraq as sponsor. This partnership will deliver online certificate programs as well as mentoring and coaching from an expert Catholic psychologist for to up to 15 seminarians in Iraq. These programs may be expanded to other religious and possibly deacons in the future.

This training is sponsored by the SALT Foundation of Iraq. The Director of the SALT Foundation, who asked to remain anonymous, said, “Archbishop Warda (Archbishop Bashar Warda of Erbil, Iraq) is very excited. He is dedicated to training priests for the people of Iraq, to equip them to be true shepherds. As you can imagine, trauma care, youth development, and support for marriages are three of the greatest needs that any people can experience, and all of these needs are present here. We are so grateful to partner with IPS to support Iraqi Catholics.”

In a recent conference, Archbishop Warda stated: “There are thousands of examples of overwhelming suffering among Iraqi Christians, thousands of examples of such senseless injury and killing. The grief and sorrow in our congregations is palpable, where not one person has been unaffected by tragedy since 2003.”

IPS will begin by delivering online certificate classes and mentoring/training for these seminarians in the following areas:

• “Helping Young People Build Character”

• “Pornography Addiction and Recovery Awareness”

• “Marriage and Family Support”

President Fr. Charles Sikorsky, LC states: “IPS couldn’t be happier to partner with our brothers and sisters in Iraq. We can’t imagine how difficult it has been for them, just look at the December bombing outside St. John’s Catholic Church in Baghdad…yet their faith is strong despite these tragedies and their minority in the country. We too can learn much from our persecuted brothers and sisters. We are thankful for this opportunity to help lend our skills, curriculum and training to this important cause in support of the global Church.”

The Institute for the Psychological Sciences is a Catholic graduate school of Psychology offering on-site Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology as well as online certificate programs. IPS seeks to train students with the best in scientific knowledge coupled with the Catholic understanding of the person, marriage and family.
