IPS Center Opens its Doors

September 24, 2013, Arlington, VA- IPS Center Opens its Doors: Focus is on Caring, Healing and Flourishing

Formerly known as the IPS Training Clinic, the IPS Center opened its doors in August 2013, offering a variety of mental health services along with extended hours and full-time personnel.

Housed on the site of the Institute for the Psychological Sciences (IPS), a graduate school of psychology, the Center is a training center for IPS doctoral students.

Unlike other psychology training centers, the staff and externs at IPS Center have been educated and trained in a groundbreaking curriculum which integrates empirically-proven psychology with the Catholic understanding of the person, marriage and the family.

Issues such as anger management, ADHD, anxiety and depression, marital and family problems, parenting issues, and common childhood problems are some of the concerns addressed.

In addition, a variety of assessment services are offered including educational, cognitive, personality, and vocational/religious.

The Center is staffed by externs who have completed their master’s degrees and are pursuing their doctoral degrees in clinical psychology.

All the work carried out by the externs is supervised by experienced, licensed clinical psychologists who are on the faculty of the Institute. Stephen Hamel, Ph.D., ABPP, is the Director of the Center for Psychological Services and an associate professor at IPS.

IPS Alumna Dr. Maja Ivankovic, Psy.D., new Assistant Director and Psychology Resident, provides daily supervision and management of the Center’s services.

Dr. Ivankovic also works directly with patients, offering both psychotherapy and psychological assessment.

“With the addition of extended hours, more doctoral externs and a psychology resident, we’re looking forward to serving a greater clientele who in the past may not have been able to access our services,” said Dr. Ivankovic.

IPS Center is now open year-round, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and clients can pay on a a sliding-fee scale for services based on income.
