Doctoral Students Successfully Placed in Clinical Externships

Arlington, VA, April 11, 2011 -- IPS is pleased to announce that once again, 100% of our doctoral students have been placed in clinical externships for the 2011-12 school year.

Dr. Philip Scrofani, Ph.D., Associate Professor and IPS Director of Clinical Training, commented, “The news from our students going on externship is a special boon to them and to IPS because they were all able to land first rate placements. I can safely say that the quality of placements has been improving immensely in the past five years and this is indeed a banner year.”

Continued Dr. Scrofani, “As I move on from the role of Director of Clinical Training, I am deeply grateful to our Lord for the blessings he has bestowed on this class of interns and externs.”

Marie Claire Roderick, a doctoral student from Saint John New Brunswick, Canada, was extremely honored by her placement at the NIH, viewing it as a tremendous gift and a reflection of the training received at IPS.

“The professors at IPS are really interested in our professional development, not just that we master all the material in a class. Being from a small town and a small school it is humbling to realize I’ll be working at one of the largest research centers in the world,” said Ms. Roderick.

Doctoral students who have successfully completed 750 hours of onsite, supervised clinical practice at the IPS Training Clinic are eligible for an externship. Once accepted to an externship, students continue with their classes at IPS while fulfilling their responsibilities as an extern.
