THEOLOGY OF THE BODY

Dr. May, a distinguished scholar and moral theologian on faculty at the John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family, will teach a three-day mini-course on the Theology of the Body, as developed by John Paul II in his “Wednesday Catecheses.”

Dr. May taught moral theology at the Catholic University of America from 1971 to 1991, when he joined the faculty of the John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family. He is the author and co-author of many books, among them Catholic Sexual Ethics (revised ed. 1998, co-authored with Ronald Lawler and Joseph Boyle); Humanae Vitae: A Defense (with Germain Grisez, John Finnis, John Ford, and Joseph Boyle); An Introduction to Moral Theology (revised ed. 1994); Marriage: The Rock on Which the Family is Built (1995); and most recently, Catholic Bioethics and the Gift of Human Life.
He is also the author of over 200 articles in such journals as The Thomist, Anthropotes, Scripta Theologica, Annales Teologici, and Linacre Quarterly. The recipient of many awards, among them the Pro Pontifice et Ecclesia Medal, Prof. May served as a peritus at the 1987 Synod of Bishops and was a member of the International Theological Commission from 1986 to 1996.

Admission Requirements: Course-for-Credit and Audit status
Individuals who are not currently enrolled in a degree program at IPS may take certain Master-level courses for credit or audit. An appropriate Baccalaureate degree is required.

Any person wishing to register on a course-for-credit or audit basis must submit a completed application, official transcript(s), and the required application fee to the Registrar’s Office. Interviews are not required, but the application is reviewed and approved by the Chair of the Department.

Those who receive permission to register on a course-for-credit or audit basis are not admitted nor guaranteed admission to a degree program. Permission to register on a course-for-credit or audit basis is subject to limitation of class size and pre-requisites, with a priority given to degree seeking students.

For students auditing a course, attendance will not be recorded, nor will they be required to complete any of the class requirements. No academic credit is awarded for auditing a course.
