What our Students are saying...

"At the institute, we draw upon Catholic philosophy and theology to forge a dynamic partnership with modern psychology.  Psychology has the power to shape culture, and coupled with the power of the Catholic faith, we realize a profound opportunity for true healing. At the Institute there is a deep commitment to an authentic and complete understanding of the human person in light of the Catholic tradition, which gives me great confidence in the education I am receiving.  There is a sense of freedom here to encounter the truth about human nature wherever it can be found.  Psychology has the power to shape culture, and I am confident that the work being done at the Institute will make our culture more authentically human through the study and praxis of a Catholic psychology.   It is exciting to be a part of this work!"
Margaret Laracy - Psy. D. Student, University of Notre Dame Valedictorian 2003

"When I began looking at graduate programs in psychology, I not only wanted to find an excellent clinical training program but also a program where my faith would be respected. The program at IPS not only respected my faith but encouraged me to grow deeper in my faith while receiving quality clinical training.  Presently, I am on Pre-Doctoral Internship working with adults with developmental disabilities. As a result of my clinical training at IPS, I am not only able to provide quality psychological services to the clients I work with but also able to see the person of Christ in all of my clients."
Patrick Graveline, Psy.D. Graduate 2007

"Studying at IPS is a joy for a variety of reasons. In addition to their sound and orthodox teaching on Catholic thought, the faculty did everything they could to not water-down and to integrate a Catholic anthropology with the science of psychology. Whether it was Dr. Paul Vitz or Fr. Benedict Groeschel, or any of the host of other excellent IPS professors trained in the best that psychology has to offer, I could sense throughout the curriculum an ever-present love for Christ and family-like compassion and care for the students of IPS. The important blend of Christian fidelity, academic integrity, and nurturing environment has made my decision to study at IPS one of the best things I have done in my entire life. I hope I can spread the faculty's faith, intellectual fervor, and care to the clients, students of psychology, and psychologists I encounter in the future."
Peter Martin - Psy. D. Student

"There is a tremendous need in the Church for solid, integrated psychology, now more than ever in the current culture of death. The false notion of freedom as license and indeterminacy is wrecking havoc on society and is bearing fruit in abortions, divorce, euthanasia, drug abuse, pornography, and the list goes on.  Aside from the moral devastation, the corresponding psychological damage can hardly be overstated.  At this early stage in my training, I have no clear idea of where I’ll be called to apply my efforts in all of this.  But I fervently believe that Christ is calling for many more laborers to this harvest."
Jennifer Cabaniss - Psy. D. Student, Thomas Aquinas University Graduate

"I am proud to be a part of a team that seeks to know first the human person, in order that they may love fully. If we can take the fruits of our efforts and give hope to our future clients, they will be better equipped to share this newfound gift with others, and we will have done what we set out to do. In a world where too many people live without love, without hope, and without direction, IPS offers a ground-breaking solution.  I am thrilled to be part of a dynamic collaboration of some of the greatest minds of our time who are addressing society’s deepest needs for freedom, for hope, and for love."
Jill Bohacik  - M.S. Graduate 2006, Catholic University of America Graduate 2003

"To truly understand the person next to us, we must see them as made in the image and likeness of God.  The Institute builds upon the solid foundations of psychology by incorporating an understanding of the nature of mankind that has sadly been missing to this point.  Rather than a psychology with the notion of health as a freedom from disorder, Catholic psychology institutes a health not only by means of a freedom from disorder but offers a freedom to move towards the authentic fulfillment of the human person as its goal.  It is this fulfillment, as described by Christ and the Church, which we at the Institute hope to promote. It is remarkable the number of people we see in therapy who are truly slaves to their passions, who are unable to let go of their hurts, their traumas, their sins.  An integrated Catholic psychology offers a freedom from all of this allowing the human person to love, heal, and to flourish.  It is not enough merely to help them cope with their desperation; we must enable them to love with their entire heart.  Because of this, I treasure what I have received at IPS."
Michael Horne  - Psy.D. Student

"There is no reason that psychology, theology, and spirituality cannot go hand in hand to enlighten each other. IPS has gone beyond the traditional antagonisms between these fields and has created a synergy  that we believe will make modern psychology more effective."
Eric Gudan - Psy. D. Student, Summa Cum Laude, Regina Apostolorum, 2001
